Icon Gallery: A Nostalgia Piece from Emmi Sprayberry

For me, Icon was not only a place of community and growth but where my love for the art industry was reinforced.

Being a part of Icon Gallery was instrumental in my really coming to love Jackson as a city and for its community.  Icon was a place where it was just about the art and the people. No pretense. No judgment. Just art and fun. A place for people to come together and have a good time. I didn't know it then but looking back community was at its core.

Being young, I'm not sure I fully knew what I was doing but I learned along the way - I knew I wanted to create a place to gather but also I just wanted to show art - that might not normally get seen at some of the high end galleries but that deserved to be seen. There was a growing art community with a strong voice and it was a place to hear it and see it.
